How to Craft the Perfect Subject Line
When it comes to convincing your recipient that your email is worth a read, there are three essentials to consider for crafting the perfect subject line.
Length
Your subject line should be 50 characters or less. Don’t think of it as a sentence so much as a quick, even subliminal communication of keywords. Use phrases that convey urgency and exclusivity without shouting the words “Urgent” and “Exclusive,” since these will likely end up in their spam box.
Personalization
Consider who is receiving your email. What are they interested in, what is your relationship to them, and what do you have that they want? Personalization can mean using the reader’s name and location in the subject line, or highlighting concepts you know will ignite their curiosity.
Relevance
Your subject line makes a promise, one you’ll fulfill when they open the email. Promise you won’t waste their time. While you don’t want to use the subject line as a boring summary of what’s inside, you do want to provide a glimpse into the information you’ll give them and why they should care.
Finally, tweak your method with a little A/B testing to ensure you’re using the best possible e-marketing strategy.
