Email marketing is a cost-effective tool in a marketer’s toolbox. It creates impactful and personalized messaging that nurtures leads, increases return on investment (ROI), and reduces churn rate to maximize a customer’s digital experience.

But, if you are not using it according to industry best practices, you could be missing out on new opportunities with your customers. For instance, do you ever wonder why your customers are not opening any of your emails? It might have to do with your customer contact lists. Here are a few tips to keep your lists at their top performance.

Clean your List

Look at your past email bounce returns to see which customers are opening emails and those who are not. Identify recipients whose bounce returns are flagged as non-existent, suspended, or undeliverable.

  • A non-existent bounce is an email address that is not being used because the domain address is not operating or the user of the address is no longer a part of the organization. Or, there may be a typo in the email address that causes it to not be found but could be corrected.
  • A suspended bounce occurs when an email address that was categorized as non-existent has been emailed a second time. Constant Contact will temporarily hold the email address for 15-days during the suspended time period and not deliver any emails to it.
  • If an email address is categorized as an undeliverable bounce, it usually means that the server or the connection can not be found after several attempts.

Having these types of email bounce returns can affect your email reputation as untrustworthy, so it is important to remove these email addresses from your lists.

If there is a certain email address that is linked to an active account in your organization or contact, then contact the account’s information to obtain the correct email address.

Segment your List

Sending emails to different customer segmentation groups with common characteristics frequently leads to an increase in open rates. According to Hubspot, “Subscriber segmentation is the most effective email marketing campaign strategy.”

  1. Create customer segmentation groups for your email lists that can be organized by common characteristics, such as occupation, demographic, geography, needs, etc.
  2. Create email campaigns that cater to each group. Then, observe the data to ensure that it is resonating with your audience. You should see an increase in open rates and click-through rates (CTR).

Utilizing customer information is vital to improving the quality of open rates and click-through rates for each email campaign. Ready to elevate your email marketing initiatives? Contact us or learn more about our marketing automation program.
