What is an influencer? And why does it seem like they’ve taken over the internet? They seem to be all over Instagram and TikTok. So how exactly are they getting so popular, and how do we learn from their fame?

Influencers are people that gained a following on social media and can influence consumer habits. There are a plethora of reasons people follow influencers. From following get-ready-with-me videos to showing people how to fix cars, there are a million reasons why people follow influencers.

People are interested in other people’s lives. That’s why reality TV is so popular. That’s why influencers have so much impact. What we can learn from influencers is this; people are inherently interested in the day-to-day activities of other people.

This means that you should run your accounts like you’re an influencer. Show the public what you’re doing. Did you make coffee? Post about it. Did you get a package? Unbox it on camera. Your audience loves when you interact with them and include them in your daily life. Therefore, just be your authentic self and allow them in.

A big help in running your social media accounts like an influencer is to up your photography game. You can get inspiration anywhere, especially this blog post, Pinterest, and from other influencers.

Case Study: Hudson Valley Tourism Instagram

We started running our client, Hudson Valley Tourism, Instagram account as if an influencer had taken over. Here is how it went:

In the first seven days, reach increased by 337%, and engagement rose by 283%. After a month of the influencer program, we gained an additional 83 followers, increased engagement by 31%, and reached over 1,000 accounts, a quarter of which were non-followers.

This program, so far, has been a total success. It shows that audiences of social media accounts are interested in what you’re doing. Showing yourself in photos increases the number of likes and engagement. By Belle, Social Media / PR Assistant | May 31, 2022
