More Than A Social Media Specialist: Silvia Marin

46

Meet Silvia, our social media specialist! I got the chance to interview her, taking time from her busy schedule to find out a little bit more about why she chose this career, where she finds inspiration, and her future goals.

As our social media specialist, Silvia is in charge of creating fresh and trending social media strategies, overseeing content and engagement, taking calls for clients, or assisting our team with any creative brainstorming.

Silvia says she never imagined she would be handling social media as her career.

“I went into school undecided and originally wanted to do something related to history or writing. After taking a marketing course, I looked into different jobs related to marketing and just became interested in public relations.”

For Silvia, her inspiration comes from everywhere!

“I think it’s so important to be inspired by other creatives and professionals in and out of the industry to get different perspectives. But, I especially like to get inspiration from social media and pop culture.”

“There’s a reason why people are active on social media accounts and why pop culture is so followed. Understanding what people are interested in and why is so important as a social media specialist and marketing specialist in general.”

Silvia’s biggest role models are her parents.

Both of her parents migrated to the US “with nothing but their clothes on their backs. They were both resilient, not knowing the language and having to start all over. However, they overcame all those challenges to provide a good life for myself and my siblings.”

She says her favorite part of what she does is that she is never doing the same thing.

“I’m always learning new tricks and the constantly changing algorithms definitely keeps me on my toes. Overall, I just love storytelling and being able to reach people on different platforms.”

Silvia says her top qualities that make her good at her job are her flexibility, ability to receive feedback, and excellent teamwork skills.

“If a client wants to try something new or if the algorithm changes I’m flexible with the content and always willing to explore new tactics. I’m also good at receiving feedback and collaborating with other team members. Not everything that I think will work or that I think looks good will be received well by others, which I’ve learned is okay.”

Silvia feels as though being in the position she is in right now is her biggest accomplishment.

“I started as an intern at BBG&G and now as the social media specialist I am in charge of projects, put together strategies, and am helping other people grow in their careers.”

She says her favorite thing to do outside of work is trying new places to eat.

“I love trying new foods from different cultures or just different restaurants. My most recent favorite is Korean BBQ and HotPot!”

Silvia sees herself doing something bigger than social media 5 years from now.

“I would like to become an overall content specialist and head of blog content, video ideas, and more.”

Here at BBG&G, Silvia is extremely determined, creative, and hardworking. She will always be the first to lend a helping hand and put her best foot forward. She adds so much to our team!
