Super Bowl LIV: Which Ads Won?
The game was sensational. The half time show was sizzling. And of course, some of the ads were super!
As seen in this photo, we got into the spirit with some pre-game predictions and tasked some team members to report back with their Super Bowl ad winners.
Here’s what they had to say:
Fran—Jeep’s ‘Groundhog Day’
“I liked the Jeep ‘Groundhog Day’ ad. It was hilarious and had a great sense of nostalgia. It was epic, brilliant, and made me want to buy a Jeep Gladiator! In that color, too!
I cracked up when Bill Murray put the groundhog in the front seat in a service vest. Also, great marketing…referencing the fact that the Super Bowl was on Groundhog Day. Jeep went there. Well done!”
“Perhaps it’s the account man in me, but my favorite ad was P&G’s multi-brand commercial. Depicting a Super Bowl party gone awry via a big pot of chili, P&G effectively leveraged celebrities and a few unforgettable ads…such as Old Spice’s ‘The Man Your Man Could Smell Like’ and the oddly provocative Mr. Clean.
This ad was the first of its kind—viewers were allowed to vote online several days before the Super Bowl to choose how the spill would be cleaned up in the final ad. Most importantly, P&G reduced their ad spend by combining multiple brands into the same spot.
While I wouldn’t say that the ad changed my perception on P&G’s products, it did make me aware of how many major brands are under the P&G umbrella.”
“I think my favorite commercial was the ‘Alexa’ commercial. Just for the simple fact that I use Alexa all the time…and got my family to use it, too.
It made me think of how much I really do rely on it. I may have become a little spoiled by how easy it is to call or send a message without picking up the phone, play my favorite music, find out the weather or just ask Alexa silly questions.
The commercial itself was a little dramatic, obviously…but funny!”
“My favorite Super Bowl ad was the Rocket Mortgage one because it showed Jason Momoa letting his ‘guard down’ by removing his muscles. I found this ad very appealing because it reminded me of older Super Bowl ads that were amusing and very direct.
The actor literally says ‘Rocket Mortgage understands that home is where I can be myself’…which is the main point of the ad.
Although, I’m not sure it will be Rocket Mortgage next time I buy a home.”
“My top pick went to Verizon’s acknowledgement of first responders. It’s nice to see big companies raising awareness for important issues facing our world today.
By highlighting values like compassion and bravery, this ad works hard to help put some heart behind Verizon’s technology and giant business. And makes me like them a little better.”
