Tidying Up Your Marketing Techniques (The KonMarie Way!)
By Bethany, Social Media Strategist | January 11, 2019
If you haven’t seen the latest Netflix docu-series, Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, then you’re missing out the show that has people all over the world purging and organizing according, no doubt, to their New Year’s resolutions.
Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant and author of best-selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Marie patented her philosophy of dealing with life’s clutter through the KonMarie method of cleaning clutter that doesn’t bring you joy.
Most people who have experienced her magic or witnessed it happen, know that it is easy to de-clutter your mess by evaluating what is worth keeping.
Marie claims that her method can help tackle any mess in life, so we wonder – can it even apply to marketing?
Well, marketing gives us joy, so we think so!
Consider tidying your marketing techniques, and getting rid of these – as they are no longer effective (or bring us joy).
Cold Calling Business Owners
Does anyone get joy from making or receiving cold calls? Unfortunately, with the volume of noise in the world we live in today, no one even picks up their phone anymore. It is more appropriate to reach out to someone with an intention, or a shared experience to draw from. These days, email is the best bet for first contact, and marketing automation can make that process easier.
Mailing to a Purchased List
Even via email, cold contacts often fall on deaf ears. It is no longer beneficial to buy lists from companies and try to get new prospects via email. Because of the volume of emails on average a person receives a day, chances are you will get moved to spam. Better to work your contacts to establish ongoing relationships.
Fake Testimonials
No one will believe the 5-star review from your brother in-law Joe on your Facebook page or on Google Business. In the age of “fake news” and fraud online, it’s a must that your reviews come from reputable sources. It’s also not credible to have rave reviews across the board. Some imperfection is expected and allowed.
How are you tidying up your marketing strategies in 2019?
