Visual Storytelling Ideas for Your Tourism Brand

By Bethany, Social Media Strategist | March 18, 2019

Visual content leaves an impression on people. If a relevant image is paired with information, people retain 65% of that information three days later, according to HubSpot.

If you want to tell your brand’s story in a unique, and captivating way, you have to incorporate visual elements into the campaign. Here are a few ideas based on recent work we’ve done for destination clients.

In Print

We recently completed a new travel guide for Destination Marketing Corporation for Otsego County (Cooperstown, NY) with new brand tactics that piece their story together.

As you scroll through the brochure, you’ll find doodles that connect thematic attractions in the Otsego County area. Not only do the doodles weave throughout the whole guide, they’re incorporated in other branding in Facebook ads, digitals ads, and other collateral.

Thematic elements in design give credence to a brand, and add an extra element of interest.

In Video

Video is a powerhouse of visual storytelling. Last spring, we created a video for our client, Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area (Hudson Valley Greenway) that demonstrated in story format how to use their new Train Tour app.

The step-by-step video generated a nice buzz on Facebook, reaching over 9,000 views from their followers and targeted audiences through
small ad campaigns.

In Social Media

Likewise, videos performed well on Facebook for our client Hudson Valley Tourism. We developed three videos last year to promote their various attractions and seasons. Each themed video told a story about different activities in the Hudson Valley.

Just organically on Facebook, their videos reached over 7,600 views from their followers. Video performed significantly better than copy-only content on their page.

No matter what your story is, make sure you’re telling it in a visual way.
