Should you be using Instagram Reels? The answer: yes.
The perfect time to create a strategy for Instagram reels is now! At BBG&G we decided it was now or never.
At the beginning of the Summer, we decided to start developing reels. At first, we took some time to test the platform and hone our capabilities, and were not creating and uploading consistently. When new technologies arise, it’s important to take time to test them and understand how to best utilize them. Then, in August, we launched a weekly program. We developed a content calendar and brainstormed ideas based on what was trending. Since then, we have seen a substantial increase in content engagement and reach.
Compared to July, our August reach was up by 298% with over 13,000 accounts reached. The content interaction was up by 139%. Furthermore, when you compare August data to May when we weren’t doing reels, content interactions went up by 604%. This we credit to the last few reels aligning with the trending sounds at the time of posting.
As a part of the learning process, we found that commonly used sounds attain the most reach. Recently, Instagram has added a feature where users can search for sounds. Since this update, our reels have seen an increase in engagement; specifically likes. We noticed that people were enjoying the content where we showed our faces and shared the human side of the business.
- Start creating reels. You won’t know if it will work for you unless you try.
- Create a content calendar. Include ideas and dates that will keep you on track.
- Keep up to date with top sounds and trends. Take the time to do your research.
- Share the human side of your business. People want to see the company culture.
- Have fun. There are times and places to be serious, but this isn’t one of them!
Reels can be intimidating if you are not used to being in front of a camera or are starting with beginner editing skills. However, Instagram has been making it easier to use and there are several tools online to help you get started. Start by learning the basics and slowly start to add in new transitions, features, and other add-ons. Before you know it, you’ll find your rhythm and niche. And with Instagram’s ever-evolving algorithm, it’s important to post a variety of content, such as reels, in-feed posts, stories, IGTV, etc., to get a better reach. While it might not seem like this will affect your bottom line, social media can improve your reach to new markets and audiences. According to a recent Mention article, 54% of social media browsers look for products to purchase.
