Three Important Digital Marketing Platforms for Gen Z and Gen Alpha

By Meredith, Copywriter | January 13, 2019

If you’re a parent, you’re all-too-familiar with hearing the “buy me something” refrain. Kids will tell you what they want you to buy – from food to toys and even trips to fun destinations.

Bottom line: kids are consumers. They have influence on their parents’ purchasing decisions.

And because you’ll frequently find them online, probably via a mobile device, you can’t forget about them when putting together your digital marketing strategies. By “them,” we’re talking about Gen Z (those born between 1996 and 2010) and Gen Alpha (those born between 2011 and 2025.)

To reach these audiences, think TikTok, SnapChat, and Twitch – three important platforms that cater to this crowd.

TikTok

Since approximately 41% of TikTok-ers are between the ages of 16 and 24, it’s a great place to make a real connection with this audience. Brand takeovers, in-feed ads and hashtag challenges are all popular ad types on TikTok.

You can partner with TikTok’s marketing team to create a sponsored hashtag challenge for your brand. This will encourage users to share content on TikTok on behalf of your brand, and generally lasts for about a week.

SnapChat

On average, 210 million people use Snapchat every day, many of whom are Gen Z and don’t frequent Facebook or Instagram. So, it’s an ideal way to reach new audiences.

Formats include Snap Ads, Collection Ads, Story Ads, AR Lenses, Filters and Commercials (6 second, non-skippable videos.)

Twitch

A subsidiary of Amazon, Twitch’s typical viewer is a male League of Legends enthusiast between the ages of 18 and 34. However, with new broadcasts like Just Chatting, the interactive live streaming service is stretching beyond the gaming industry to include more general interests.

Brands are rapidly getting involved by sponsoring influencers, branding emotes and creating more traditional advertising like video and banner ads.
